Description

Cines Alhambra opened in 1997 on Via España in what was formerly the Cine Mexico, and the brand soon expanded to other locations in the city. Founded by Enrique Martin, Alhambra brought digital sound, the first wall-to-wall screens and stadium seating to Panama and promoted independent and experimental film.

The movies showing on its closing day were: This Means War, The Iron Lady, The Help, Underworld Awakening, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Lincoln Lawyer, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The other Alhambra branches in Milla 8, Plaza Agora an Chanis closed on January 31, 2012.

Theater manager Javier Martin told Mi Diario in February that the end of Alhambra can be attributed to a variety of factors but perhaps most notably to the influx of the large cineplexes in Panama’s malls.
